I would like to purchase parts for my Aquastorm or Hydrostorm that
aren't listed on your website do you carry them?
Answer:
Yes, if you need a part that is not listed on our website please email us at:info@newworldhydro.com.
We stock a full line of replacement parts with the current exceptions
being the strainer fitting on the Hydrostorm's pump assembly and the air
injection manifold on the Aquastorm. Neither the air injection manifold,
or the strainer fitting, is available separately from the pump itself.
We do stock a working replacement for the air injection manifold that
differs from the standard one included with your machine. Please contact

Aquastorm Related Questions
Question:
Should I use rooting hormones in my Aquastorm?
Answer:
No, rooting hormones are not necessary and in some cases can kill your cuttings.
Any type of rooting compound that contains solid particles can build
up in the pump and seize the pumps impeller assembly. Rooting gels
are designed to seal off the open tips of each cuttings and form
a sticky substance that not only seizes the pumps impeller, it also
seals off the tips of the cuttings preventing them from absorbing
water and oxygen and eventually kills them by dehydration.

Question:
How often should I change my nutrient solution in the Aquastorm?
Answer:
Keep the original
nutrient solution in the system until your cuttings are ready for
transplant. Only change your solution if it has somehow become contaminated.
Anytime you change your nutrient solution before the cuttings have
takes root only increases your chances of introducing micro-organisms
into the system that could kill your cuttings and lower your success
rate.
[top]
Question:
The stems on my cuttings are turning to mush and I can't get anything
to root, what's going on?
Answer:
You're experiencing
a fungal infection commonly referred to as "damping off". Fill your
Aquastorm with 1/4 cup of strong bleach and hot water and let it
sit for at least 1 hour. Scrub all the internal and external surfaces
while the machine is soaking and rinse thoroughly. Check the air
output of your air pump. If the pump shows signs of reduced air
output rebuild or replace it. You should also monitor your water
temperature. If the water temperature is near 100 degrees, the water's
capacity to hold oxygen will be significantly reduced. Higher temperatures
will also accelerate the growth of bacteria and fungus. Move your
Aquastorm to a cooler location if damping off continues to be a
problem. You can also try a hydroponic grade fungicide such as Hydrogard
to improve your results.

Question:
What type of lighting should I use?
Answer:
This depends
on the plant species. Hardy light loving plants will root faster
under increased light. We obtained the best results under a 150
watt hps or metal halide lamp placed at least 3 foot or about 1
meter above the cuttings. High output florescent lamps will also
work well especially for plants that can't tolerate bright conditions.

Question:
What light cycle should I use?
Answer:
We recommend 18-24 hours of continuous light per day.

Question:
The holes in the plant holders are bigger than my cuttings stem,
will this cause a problem?
Answer:
No, the plant holders are designed with oversized holes so the system
can breath, and produce humidity. As long as the cutting has some
sort of leafy foliage it will not fall through the hole in the plant
holder. Do not pack tissue paper or loose rockwool around the stems
of the cuttings. This will cause stem rot and reduce your chances
of success.
[top]
Question:
What do I do if the holes in the plant holders are too small?
Answer: You can drill
them out with a 1/2" drill bit. If this is a problem for you, contact
us and we can supply you with custom plant holders in packs of 5
for $5.00 plus shipping.
[top]
Question:
Do I need to fill all the plant holders with clones before I can
use the machine?
Answer: No, you can
root from 1-28 cuttings in your Aquastorm. The lid is designed to
be leak proof no matter how many holes are left open. The light
passing through these open holes will not effect root growth. Do
not plug the holes up as the system needs to be able to breath.

Question:
How do I remove the cuttings from the rubber plant holders?
Answer: The rubber
plant holders feature a vertical slit down on side and stretch open
to wrap around the stem of the cutting.
[top]
Question:
How do I tell if my plants have begun to take root?
Answer: Cuttings will
usually show signs of rooting by the end of the first week. You
will begin to see signs of roots in the form of little white bumps
which appear at the base and sides of the cuttings stem that is
in direct contact with the nutrient spray.
[top]
Question:
How long should I leave my cuttings in the Aquastorm
before I transplant them?
Answer: To ensure
the best survival rates from your transplants, they need the largest
possible root system. Leave the cuttings in long enough for them
to begin vegetative growth. At this point they should have a large
enough root system in order to survive. This usually takes about
14 days with most plant species. Do not leave the cuttings in long
enough for the roots to become entangled with one another. This
makes removal difficult and stresses out the cuttings due to root
damage upon removal from the Aquastorm.

Question:
What temperature should the nutrient solution be inside my Aquastorm?
Answer: 75 degrees
Fahrenheit is optimal but in many cases hard to maintain. If the
room temperature is 75 degrees the system will run a little warmer
because the submersible pump puts out a small amount of heat. The
best way to control the correct temperature is to place the Aquastorm
on a cold surface such as a basement floor. This will allow the
heater to adjust the water temperature as needed. If the air injection
system is working properly higher water temperatures are usually
not a problem. We have seen success rates as high as 100% in water
temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit without fungicide. If the
system temperature is allowed to go above 100 degrees, success rates
will drop considerably.

Question:
What type of nutrients should I use?
Answer: Any type of
hydroponic grade nutrient will work. We recommend a nutrient solution
of 1/4 strength that is high in nitrogen to reduce yellowing of
the foliage. It is a common myth that cuttings need nutrients high
in phosphorous in order to help stimulate root growth, but this
is simply not the case.
[top]
Question:
Since the Aquastorm produces its own humidity, will it make my grow
room humid?
Answer: No, the Aquastorm
will only produce small amounts of humid air that remains mostly around
the leaf zone of the cuttings. The Aquastorm will not increase the relative
humidity of a growroom no greater than a single air powered drip bucket
system.
[top]
Question:
What level of success can I expect from an Aquastorm?
Answer: Success rates
normally vary from 90-100% under normal conditions. If a hydroponic
grade fungicide such as Hydrogard is used, your success rates will
be higher. The presence of bacteria and fungus will ultimately determine
the survival rate of your cuttings.
[top]
Question:
Can I clone any type of plant in the Aquastorm?
Answer: No, the Aquastorm
is designed exclusively for stem cuttings. A stem cutting is a branch
taken from a plant that is capable of reproducing the entire plant
once it takes root. Some plants require different types of propagation
techniques. Please consult a book on plant propagation if you have
questions regarding your specific plant species.

Question:
The plant holders look like rubber stoppers. Can I buy them locally?
Answer: Yes and no.
Our plant holders are made from #7 1/2 wine making stoppers which
are custom molded using a black SBR rubber compound. You can substitute
them for #7 1/2 white gum rubber stoppers found in beer and wine
making stores. To our knowledge, no one is selling them in black
except us. The average retail price is about $1.00 each and they
require that you cut them with a razor knife. It's much easier and
better to order them from us or one of our retail distributors as
the black rubber plant holders not only hold up better than the
white gum rubber stoppers, they feature a precision cut that cannot
be imitated with a razor knife.

Question:
Can
I germinate seeds in the Aquastorm, and if not, do you sell a germination
lid?
Answer: The Aquastorm
is designed exclusively for stem cuttings. If you want a machine
that can germinate seeds you can purchase either the 5 site Hydrostorm
lid kit which is compatible with the Aquastorm or a complete Hydrostorm
module.

Hydrostorm Related Questions
Question:
Can I connect several Hydrostorm modules up to another brand name
reservoir controller?
Answer: Yes, the Hydrostorm
modules are fully compatible with other brand name reservoir controllers
as long as they can maintain a 6-7 inch water level.
[top]
Question:
What nutrient concentration should I use?
Answer:
Since the Hydrostorm uses almost no hydroponic planting medium to buffer your plants
roots from the nutrient solution, your plants are more susceptible
to over fertilization. With this in mind you should use an average
of 1/2 the normal amount of nutrient concentrate initially and slowly
increase it over the plants growth period in order to find to proper
nutrient concentration for optimum growth.
[top]
Question:
How often should I change my nutrient solution in each Hydrostorm
module?
Answer: Once a week.
It's possible to extend this period to 2 weeks by adding a fresh
water nutrient controller containing a weak nutrient mixture. The
nutrient solution concentration in the fresh water reservoir should
be determined by trial and error before you leave your system un-attended
for long periods up to 2 weeks.
